Forbury Gardens
Fountain & Bandstand
As part of the Restoration of the The Reading Abbey, we have, in partnership with Reading Borough Council started work on two prominent features of Forbury Gardens. All in preparation for the opening of the Abbey on 16th June. click here for events
The Victorian fountain, which has been out of use for a few years, is getting a make over. It was originally built using flints taken from the Abbey and we have carried this practice on by using flints left over from the current works there. The surround is being raised and the base is being re water proofed and the central fountain piece is being adapted and restored.
We are also giving the bandstand a makeover. Unfortunately the Edwardian wooden structure has been victim of vandalism. Some of the spindles have been broken so we have taken the pattern of the original and have had new spindles turned. Our decorators are giving all the building a new coat of paint retaining the Edwardian colours.
